ABOUT CERT

How CERT Helps

Local governments prepare for everyday emergencies. However, during a large disaster, the number and scope of incidents can overwhelm conventional emergency services.

The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) is designed to educate residents and businesses about emergency preparedness for hazards that may impact their area and to instruct them in basic disaster response skills.

CERT members can give critical support to their families, neighbors, and community immediately following a disaster, when residents may initially be on their own and emergency services may not be able to help.

CERT members will never be asked to take on roles that will endanger them. They will also always make sure their own immediate needs, and that of their families and neighbors, are addressed before reporting to the city to assist.

CERT’S ROLE DURING AN EMERGENCY

The City of Agoura Hills may call CERT members into action during an emergency. Our members are prepared to:

  • Be the eyes and ears of the city by driving every street and looking for problems

  • Report findings to the city so that City, Fire, and Sheriff resources can be assigned to areas most in need

  • Helping to move supplies to support emergency responders

  • Provide basic first aid and disaster response skills if needed

The CERT Course

Agoura Hills CERT offers a series of training courses so you can be better prepared for a disaster.
